Your own local may be getting ready to reopen on April 12, but what about less established boozers and bars, some of which are either brand new, or barely got a chance to open before they had to close.

We take a look at some of the new boozers on the Kent block bringing a breath of fresh air to outdoor drinking.

Three Sheets to the Wind, Rochester

There'll be an Austrian flavour to reopening outdoors in Rochester High Street, with the arrival of new kid on the pub block, Three Sheets to the Wind.

The family run business set up by Nina Minhard; her older brothers, Thomas and Patrick and their mum and uncle, Tracy Minhard and Matthew Harrison, will start trading on Monday, April 12, and the beverages will celebrate the owners' multicultural heritage, by offering not only Kent beer, but also Austrian beverages.

The pub garden will be able to seat around 35 to 40 people.

Bridge Arms, near Canterbury

The Michelin-starred owners of the Fordwich Arms have taken on this pub in Bridge, just outside Canterbury, and renamed it from the former White Horse.

Couple Dan and Tasha Smith are ready and waiting to open on Monday, April 12 for outdoor dining, with plenty of space outside for social distancing.

There will be plenty to drink on the menu, as well as a charcoal-focused food menu with a charcoal grill oven.

Reign, Broadstairs

You may not get to soak up the Art Deco atmosphere inside initially, but the new bar and lounge will have plenty of sustenance to soak up, from morning coffee and afternoon tea to Champagne and cocktails when it opens its doors for the first time outdoors.

Its interior has been designed by the founder of Lifeforms Design, Lee Pollock, inspired by the building’s own Art Deco architecture, with bold use of colour and crystal lighting with brass and marble detail.

A short walk from Viking Bay, the building on Albion Street was built in the 1920s.

New proprietors Paul and Katy King said of the design: "We are absolutely blown away by the end result at Reign and feel it is exactly what we dreamed it would be.”

There is a small area for outside seating which will cater for around 12 to 14 people and there will be a first come first served basis to begin with.

It will open outdoors on April 12 and indoors on May 17. Find out more here.

The Pheasant Plucker, Ide Hill, Sevenoaks

The village pub which was formerly The Woodman, will reopen on Monday, April 12 outside with the new name of the Pheasant Plucker, after being taken on by Elite Pubs, which also runs the Potting Shed in Langley, near Maidstone.

Managers researched its history to come up with the new tongue twister of a name, which refers to the introduction of the first Chinese pheasant to England which happened locally.

It has undergone a substantial refit and will have a new team when it reopens outdoors. Find out more here.

The Plough, Wilmington

The pub in High Road, Wilmington opened for just over two months before closing in December, after undergoing a £260,000 revamp with Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars and new licensee Nicola Tume.

It will reopen on Wednesday, April 14, and will run opening hours of Wednesday to Sunday noon to 9pm, and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Find out more here.

The New Fox Inn, Ashford

A team of enthusiasts have taken on The Windmill Inn in Ashford, which will open on Monday under its new name The New Fox Inn.

DJ John Webster is a key figure behind the takeover after first thinking of the idea during the original national lockdown. Former England footballer Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock is also involved after becoming one of 24 investors who have all stumped up £2,000 to help fund the project.

Owned by the Ei Group, formerly known as Enterprise Inns, the pub’s lease had been advertised for a number of years. Mr Webster says the beer garden is looking fantastic, with a number of new table benches laid out at the Hythe Road spot.

Matches Sports Bar, Ashford

The bar promises to offer the ultimate sports bar experience and will have ultra-HD screens showing live sports, food and drinks including craft beers, when it opens at Elwick Place in the town.

Opening next to Macknade underneath the Picturehouse cinema, it may not be quite ready for April 12, but is due to open this spring.

There will be an onsite Burger & Wing kitchen and there will be vegetarian options available. And in a first for Ashford, there will be three self-pour beer booths and a private screening room with super surround-sound available to book.

Founder Jon Shephard said: "Matches has been born out of the pandemic and as a local resident, I wanted to create a unique, friendly and social space for everyone to come and enjoy, relax and most importantly, have fun whether you’re into sports or not."

Balance, New Romney

Balance Bar is set to be a first for New Romney in more than one way when it opens in June.

A tapas bar and restaurant, it will open in the former NatWest building on the High Street - and will give its profits to charity.

Owner and businessman Lance McKay wanted to give back to charities that had helped his family after his youngest daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She was cared for at the Lion Ward in Kings College Hospital, London.

Work on the building has been ongoing since January, and is set to complete in June. Find out more here.
