Two of the world’s most renowned ballets are coming to a Kent theatre.

The International Classic Ballet Theatre will be bringing its productions of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker to the Churchill Theatre in Bromley from Wednesday, January 11 to Saturday, January 14.

The ballet company, which includes a selection of international dancers, toured the United States extensively in 2022 to critical acclaim.

The dancers, led by artistic director Marina Medvetskaya, are now performing their reimagined versions of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballets to audiences across the country.

“I adore bringing these iconic ballets to the UK where there is such a love for the classics,” says Marina, who is a former prima ballerina of Tbilisi State Academic Opera and Ballet. “I take great pride in selecting the best dancers from across the globe to ensure that audiences have a wonderful experience and become ballet lovers for life.”

The first of the company’s two productions is the timeless tragedy Swan Lake.

The show, which will be performed on Wednesday, January 11 and Thursday, January 12, follows Odette and Prince Siegfried as they fall in love and strive to break the curse placed upon Odette, but deceit and trickery lead to irreversible consequences.

The ballet was first performed by the Bolshoi Ballet in 1877 and has since been seen by audiences worldwide.

The show was also the basis for the 2010 film Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder.

The second of the company’s shows, The Nutcracker, will be at the theatre on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14 and is known as a traditional festive ballet.

The audience join Clara and her Nutcracker Prince as they set off on a magical Christmas Eve adventure, meeting dancing snowflakes, tin soldiers and the Sugar Plum Fairy along the way.

The whimsical story is based on E. T. A. Hoffmann’s 1816 novella the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. It has been enjoyed by audiences since its debut in 1892 and has gone onto become one of Tchaikovsky’s most recognisable scores.
