After one too many Christmas chocolates and a stomach full of turkey, you might feel in need of some fresh air and a little exercise this Boxing Day.

If you can prise yourself and your family off the sofa, there are some refreshing country walks and runs taking place that you can join.

If you want to get out into the Kent countryside and take in a truly picturesque setting, you can take part in the Boxing Day Walk at Ightham Mote.

This National Trust property in Sevenoaks is offering a full English breakfast to start the day, included in your ticket, followed by a bracing walk around the beautiful estate.

During your walk around the 14th century moated grounds, you can enjoy 14 acres of tranquil gardens, including the orchard, water features, lakes and woodland, as well as the decorated historic house.

The walk is set to last approximately 60 to 90 minutes, and the whole event takes place between 8.45am and 11.30am.

Tickets to join the walk cost £25, and visitors are advised to dress appropriately as the paths can be uneven and may be muddy depending on weather. You can book online here or call 01732 810378.

Another walk you are welcome to join is the Boxing Day Syndale Walk near Faversham.

Give your Christmas roast a chance to go down with a pleasant stroll, starting at the train station in the traditional market town of Faversham.

This walk, organised by Boots On Adventures, is one of the group’s best-loved routes and takes you through the town’s surrounding area, including the charming Painter’s Forstal and Syndale.

The group will meet at 10.45am and start on the walk, which covers around 6.2 miles and takes approximately 3.5 hours, goes through woodland, orchards and fields, and includes a break for lunch.

Tickets cost £3.50 per person and can be booked online here, but you’ll need to bring your own refreshments.

And, finally, if you want to take things up a gear, you can always put on your running shoes and head out on the Saltwood Boxing Day Run near Hythe.

The annual run returns again this Boxing Day and will take participants on a spritely three-mile loop on footpaths, fields and trails in and around the area.

Whether you need a hangover cure or want to start your January health kick early, this off-road route is suitable for beginners and advanced runners, so everyone is welcome to take part.

Standard registration costs £12 per person.
