The cast of Call the Midwife, which has been filmed in the county since it started, have celebrated its tenth anniversary.

The team, who have visited the Historic Dockyard Chatham every year to film scenes for the Sunday night nostalgic show, enjoyed a preview of this year's Christmas special to mark the occasion, ahead of it being broadcast to millions next month.

The team tweeted about the special day, which was followed by a trip to the new BAFTA headquarters in London’s Piccadilly for the launch of the new Christmas Special and Series 11, which had scenes filmed back in June at the dockyard.

They posted on Facebook: "Our cast and media had their first look at our festive episode… and we can assure you there were plenty of tears and lots of joy."

The show, which is now set in the 1960s, is due to air on BBC One on Christmas Day.

The cast is set to include regulars from Stephen McGann, who plays Dr Turner, and Cliff Parisi (Fred Buckle) to Laura Main, who plays Shelagh Turner.

The dockyard holds tours from March to October each year showing some of the sets used in filming and has an exhibition, staged with Neal Street Productions who make the show for the BBC.

They start again on March 1, 2021.
