There will be camels running riot in one of the county’s most beautiful gardens this weekend.

Strange as it may sound, pig and camel racing – yes, camel racing – is coming to Kent courtesy of the Wild Camel Protection Foundation, a registered UK charity, which is staging the activity at picturesque Hole Park Gardens, near Rolvenden.

It starts at 2pm on Sunday, September 7 and will help raise funds for the wild double-humped camel, which is one of the world’s most endangered animals.

Four heats of the Mongolian Camel Stakes will be held with local jockeys battling for prizes.

Betting will be possible with full racing commentary provided.

In what is set to be a colourful fundraising event, Mongolian wrestling, singing and dancing will also entertain the crowds.

The Mongolian Ambassador will be present in an official capacity to open proceedings.

A barbecue together with other side-shows and attractions for visitors of all ages will also be on offer.

Admission costs £10 per car and includes free access to Hole Park Gardens and entry into a prize draw.
