Following last year’s bumper grape harvest, the first Canterbury Wine Festival this weekend will be a chance to celebrate the success of the Kent wine industry.

The Westgate Community Trust and Master of Wine Clive Barlow - one of only 384 in the world - are hosting the inaugural event, at Westgate Hall on Saturday, June 22.

Wine lovers will be able to come along to sip, share and discover Kent’s remarkable wines and meet the producers.

Try up to 20 premium wines at the festival

Ticket holders will be armed with a programme with details of the producers and tasting notes, a festival glass and tote bag; a voucher for a plate of cheese and crackers to soak it all up and up to 20 tastings of premium wines.

You can also take a breather and buy a glass of wine directly from the producer, or buy some to take home.

The city was chosen as a venue as it is a tourist destination with vineyards on the doorstep, with Westgate Hall located in the heart of the city.

Clive Barlow is an international wine judge who runs Canterbury’s longest-running independent wine merchant.

Tickets for the event, sponsored by Burgess Hodgson Accountants, Girlings Solicitors and Canterbury BID cost from £35.

There will be two sessions at 11am to 2pm and 3pm to 6pm. Book at eventbrite.co.uk/e/canterbury-wine-festival
