On Friday, May 8 the country will be marking the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day)
The joy and relief heralding Germany's surrender in 1945 will be echoed with VE Day events, not just in the county but across the nation.
Second World War themed parties, a chain of lighted beacons, veterans and cadet parades, and an RAF fly-past, will be just some of them.
Prime Minister David Cameron said: “VE Day is one of the most pivotal moments in our nation’s proud history.
"After years of all-out war - and the untold sacrifice of millions at both home and abroad - this day marked the moment when the threat of Nazi brutality was finally lifted,
“As a nation, it is vital we remember the 70th anniversary of this historic day.”
On that day in 1945, Adolf Hitler’s self-proclaimed “1,000-year-old Reich” officially ended. His evil regime had barely lasted 12 years but the world had changed forever.
To mark the occasion the KM Group will be printing an anniversary supplement looking at how the county celebrated VE Day in all it's paid-for titles.
