The star of Channel 4 chat show Chatty Man will be trying out new material in preparation for his forthcoming tour Alan Carr - Work In Progress.

Tickets for the gig at Folkestone's Quarterhouse, taking place on Saturday, March 22, went on sale at 5pm on Monday and sold out in just 45 minutes - a record for the venue.

Tickets to see Alan at Deal's Astor Theatre on Thursday, February 13 went on sale at 5pm on Wednesday and sold out by 6pm.

A show at Gravesend's Woodville Halls on Saturday, February 1 has also sold out.

Astor Theatre Artistic Director James Tillet said: “We opened at 9am on the Thursday and the telephone did not stop ringing. We had people queuing up at the box office too.”

A former supermarket and call centre worker, Carr has become one of the biggest names in British comedy since being named BBC Best New Stand-Up in 2001.

He shot to fame following his Tooth Fairy Live tour in 2007, with the tour's DVD becoming a Christmas bestseller.

He recently won the BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance for his chat show broadcast on Channel 4, Alan Carr: Chatty Man.

He was also nominated at the British Comedy Awards for the 2013 King or Queen of Comedy award - but missed out to Jack Whitehall.
