One of Kent’s historic castles is soon to be adorned in autumn colours.

Hever Castle, near Edenbridge, will be putting on glorious displays of yellow, red and orange leaves and vivid autumnal flowers in its garden to celebrate the changing of the season.

When visitors first arrive at the front of the castle, they will be greeted by the romantic Boston Ivy that covers the exterior in a striking shade of red.

You can then explore the new area of the award-winning gardens, the Church Gill, which has been reimagined over the last five years.

The redesigned rock garden is a tranquil spot where you can listen to birdsong and the bubbling brook, while the woodland plants and colourful perennials planted on the sloping banks provide a beautiful backdrop.

From here, there is a pathway that leads to Anne Boleyn’s Walk, where you can look down on the red, golden and green corridors of the estate and outer moat.

There are also autumnal plants like dahlias and the orange leaves of beech trees mingling with liquidambars, tulip trees and Japanese maples dotted around the grounds.

The team at Hever Castle will be putting on a series of workshops and tours over the next few weeks to help visitors make the most of the season.

There will be a tour and talk from gardening writer and dahlia enthusiast Val Bourne, natural flower dye workshops, a daffodil planting masterclass and a guided walk through the Church Gill with one of the castle’s gardeners.

Autumn Colour will be at Hever Castle from Monday, September 17 to Friday, October 25. The display is included with a standard entry ticket, which can be booked here.

Some of the seasonal events will need to be booked separately in advance.
