The county's first black-owned open-air cinema event is set to be staged.

Non-profit organisation Show Love Kent will present the screening at Whatman Park in Maidstone on Saturday, September 5, featuring film magic, plus Afro Caribbean food and drink, as well as a live opening DJ playing R'n'B, Afrobeat and dancehall music from 7pm.

Supporters have been voting online for the film choice, which will be Get Out, Jordan Peele’s chilling satire of liberal racism in the US, and will be shown at 8.30pm.

In a statement, organisers said: "These are unprecedented times, and we feel that now more than ever, we all need the prospect of a lovely summer to look forward to.

"So come ahead and support your local non-profit organisation... you came out to march with us for the Black Lives Matter Protest, now is the time to connect and celebrate as a community."

Show Love Kent aims to educate and celebrate various cultures; uplift the younger generation; connect with each other and create a community with open hands to those who are willing to learn and understand all cultures respectfully.

The open-air event is scheduled to go ahead whatever the weather, although may be rescheduled in the event of very high winds or heavy rain.

Tickets cost from £15. Limited parking for £3 can be made at the Freedom Fitness Gym and there will be toilet facilities on the night.
