No sooner were we splashing on the suntan lotion this summer than autumn draws its gusty head as we take our first steps into September.

You could therefore be forgiven for thinking that it’s time to pack away the flowery decor of summer in place of the burgundy or brown leaf trimmings of autumn.

But flora actually goes hand-in-hand with autumn so why shouldn’t people continue to wear it?

British poet John Donne once famously wrote that ‘no spring, nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face’.

Those inspiring words have seemingly rung true with fashion designers across the world this year.

With London Fashion week set to take place between Friday, September 14 and Tuesday, September 18, some of the top designers have been drawing on floral spins accompanied with traditional and iconic British heritage looks.

Another trend has been a return of the eighties and, yes, flowers were still in with the times during that decade even in the aftermath of the flower-power days of the seventies.

Granted, autumn is not summer which would suggest why some designers have opted for a darker tones of floral dress designs that are rendered on black backgrounds.

Others prefer sequinned poppies and there also those in a more historical mood with their blowsy roses winding over coats and silk dresses.
