If you’re in the market for a truly scrumptious new home, this Grade II country house near Dover could be just what you’re looking for.

This magnificent seven-bedroom mansion was once owned by the Hollis family.

During their time at the house, Mr Hollis bought himself a car - but this wasn’t just any car. It was an aero-engined racing car, Chitty 2, which was the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s 1964 children’s novel, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The writer first spotted the car when it was owned by Count Zoborowski, who lived at Higham Park - now known as Highland Court - in Bridge, near Canterbury.

The young car enthusiast caught the attention of the novelist with his wealthy exploits and self-built cars, which included the series of 23-litre Maybach-powered racers he built with engineer Captain Clive Gallop they called Chitty Bang Bang.

Count Zoborowski sold Chitty 2 to the Hollis family during their time at this beautiful home in the village of Temple Ewell.
