Impressive new gardens, woodland tours and outdoor activities for all ages has opened to visitors at Leeds Castle.

Between Monday, June 24 and Sunday, June 30, Kent’s famous castle will unveil the newly planted areas of its estate as part of its 900th anniversary celebrations while HRH Princess Alexandra will also be dropping in!

There will also be daily activities around the impressive castle gardens including an informative and interesting Woodland Walk on Monday, June 24 and Friday, June 28 in the company of a grounds team member.

There are even more opportunities to learn new things with gardening talks run by the Castle’s Head Gardener and his team on Wednesday, June 26, Thursday, June 27 and Friday, June 28.

Matt Jackson, who is leading the redesign of the gardens, will be giving a fascinating guided walk through the gardens and parkland on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25.

Visitors can join Matt as he narrates the fascinating 900-year landscape history, bringing it to life as they walk the new gardens with him, discovering the developments of the 21st Century and how the project will continue to shape the ancient landscape.

‘The 900 year garden: the south east, the middle east and the far east’ is included in the price of admission.

Visitors can learn how to care for herbaceous perennials, grow successful bedding plants in pots and containers as well as get some tips on how to look after hardy exotics.

But there is also so much to do and see for all ages.

Budding artists can pre-book a Watercolour Workshop on Thursday, June 27 or Photo Walk on Friday, June 27. All additional activities are included in the price of admission.

Younger visitors can join in the gardening fun with ‘Garden Bingo’ on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30.

Leeds Castle to be graced by Royal visit

HRH Princess Alexandra - who is also the Patron of The Leeds Castle Foundation - will visit Leeds Castle on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 25 to unveil a commemorative plaque to formally open ‘The Princess Alexandra Gardens’, previously named the Woodland Gardens.

During the Royal visit, HRH Princess Alexandra will also oversee the laying of a time capsule on the Castle Island, to be opened in one hundred years’ time.

Inside the time capsule will be a variety of objects including a bottle of ‘Motte & Baillie’ commemorative Leeds Castle Gin and ‘Then & Now’ photographs - Leeds Castle staff that were photographed 100 years ago set against the exact replica shots of the staff today.

As part of an exciting ongoing project celebrating the Castle’s 900th anniversary, the newly named Princess Alexandra Gardens have been separated into six diverse new areas including an Oriental Garden and Jungle Garden.

Working with exterior landscape consultants, the gardens are being developed over the course of five years.

Ticket prices are set at £26 for adults, £24 for seniors and visitors with disabilities (there is free admittance for carers). Tickets are £17.50 for children (under 4s free) while a family ticket is £70.

Admission tickets are valid for 12 months so visitors can pay once and visit all year round.

Entry to the 900th anniversary celebrations are included in the admission ticket.
