A giant effigy of Liz Truss is set to go up in flames on Bonfire Night.

The annual Edenbridge Bonfire celebration, which takes place at the town’s Recreation Ground, has announced that this year will see a 10m tall figure of the former Prime Minister set alight as part of its fireworks display.

The huge effigy depicts the Conservative MP holding a Guiness Book of World Records as the shortest-serving PM in the country's history, and a lettuce on her shoulder.

The lettuce is in reference to the Daily Star's 'Liz Truss Lettuce', in which the national newspaper shared a livestream of an iceberg lettuce that had outlasted Truss' time as Prime Minister.

The bonfire event begins at 6.30pm, when a torchlit procession with more than 1,000 torches will parade through the town, led by a choir and the Edenbridge Bonfire Society’s effigies of Guy Fawkes, General Wolfe and Anne Boelyn.

The carnival will also feature around 20 brightly lit floats, costumed characters and marching bands from nearby bonfire societies in Kent and Sussex.

The Recreation Ground itself will be bustling with stalls, fairground rides and the resident DJ who will help visitors count down to the bonfire.

The two huge figures of Guy Fawkes and Liz Truss will be engulfed in flames and gunpowder before a fireworks finale will light up the skies.

Liz Truss' predecessor Boris Johnson has also been the Edenbridge Bonfire celebrity effigy in the past

In the past, the celebrity effigy has taken the form of Boris Johnson, Donald Trump, Katie Hopkins, Jonathan Ross, Katie Price, Wayne Rooney, Lance Armstrong, Gordon Brown, John Prescott, Anne Robinson and Saddam Hussein.

The society has been celebrating Bonfire Night for more than 90 years, and has been known to feature more than 750 people in its torchlit parade through Edenbridge High Street.

Local businesses offer sponsorship to help organise the event, and it takes more than 100 volunteers to put the annual bonfire celebration together.

The Edenbridge Bonfire Society event will take place on Saturday, November 5 from 6.30pm. All roads into Edenbridge will close at 6pm.
