Review: Ice skating at the Tower of London

Home of the Crown jewels, the Tower of London is undeniably one of the capital's most iconic sites.

Now, throughout the festive season, the historic castle is offering a stunning ice skating experience.

With the Thames flowing just a stone's throw away, it really is the idyllic place to strap on your skates and take a spin.

The rink is lit up at night (5582708)

And with rotating snowflakes adorning the walls of the medieval building, it is like a picturesque scene from a Christmas film.

But if, like myself, you make Bambi on ice look like a pro, penguin skate aids are a real saviour (even if they are meant more for children).

A limited number are available to hire each session for £5 and can be booked on a first come, first served basis at the skate exchange counter.

A suitably festive cafe and bar sits adjacent to the rink, offering a warm and cosy place for skaters to rest, warm up and have a drink.

The retreat offers a range of tasty food as well as a selection of alcoholic beverages.

The rink is open to the public from today (November 23) until Sunday, January 6, daily from 11am until 9pm, except on Christmas Day when it will be closed.

All ages and skill levels are welcome until 7pm, but from 8pm the evening sessions will not have skate aids on offer.

Adult tickets are £14,50, £12.50 for students with a valid NUS card, children aged 15 and under, OAPs and jobseeker concessions with proof of eligibility.

Children aged 12 and under, who must be accompanied by an adult, can skate for £10.50.

Family tickets are £46 for two adults and two children, or £42 for one adult and three children.
