Comedian Julian Clary and his new show, which is set in the “macho world of the Western”, are coming to two Kent venues.

The stand-up tour, A Fistful of Clary, is heading out on the road for 45 dates, including nights in Tunbridge Wells and Canterbury.

“I love touring, it is a very lovely, creative process,” says the funnyman. “Every night is different. I look forward to seeing how things evolve: a tiny spontaneous idea one night can become a twenty-minute routine after a few shows.

“That sort of thing can only happen on stage – no amount of thinking in the comfort of your own home can bring it about.”

The tour will also include two shows at the London Palladium, where the comic performs in the annual Christmas pantomime.

Last year was his eighth season as part of the Palladium panto, starring in Peter Pan alongside Jennifer Saunders.

“I can’t believe my luck,” says the performer. “At this time of life, I thought I might be doing the odd gig in a room above a pub somewhere provincial.

“The Palladium is a truly magical place. And two nights! I feel truly blessed. As soon as I walk through the stage door of the Palladium I feel overcome with happiness.”

After making a name for himself on the alternative comedy circuit in the 1980s, the stand-up star appeared on TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Big Brother.

The 64-year-old also recently took part in the 16th series of Taskmaster with Lucy Beaumont, Sam Campbell, Sue Perkins and Susan Wokoma.

A Fistful of Clary will have a quirky Western theme, with a small number of fans being invited on stage to join the former game show host in his Hang ‘Em Low Saloon.

“I can’t give too much away but I don’t think you’ll be disappointed,” he says. “I’ve always wanted to slip into a pair of chaps.”

Julian Clary will be performing his stand-up show at the Assembly Hall Theatre in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday, April 13. You can book tickets online here.

He will also be at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury on Thursday, April 25, however tickets for this date have sold out.
