MAKE AN ESCAPE
The newly-renovated Woodland Trail at Penshurst Place and Gardens gives young visitors the chance to escape to the wild on Sunday, April 30 and Bank Holiday Monday.
Experts from Camp Wilderness will demonstrate shelter building, scavenging and sharing a host of outdoor living bushcraft tips. The fun-packed Escape to the Wild demonstrations run from 11am to 5pm both days and are included in the grounds admission prices. For details visit penshurstplace.com
PAT A LAMB
Lambing season has arrived at Mount Ephraim and what better way to celebrate than to get to meet and cuddle the new arrivals. The Pat a Lamb Days on Sunday, April 30 and Bank Holiday MondayMay 1give visitors the chance to do exactly that.
Also on offer will be birds of prey displays by Joe’s Bows and a children’s garden trail, all between 11am and 5pm both days. The tearoom will also be open. The Edwardian terraced gardens at Hernhill, near Faversham, will be in full bloom. Entry is £7 and £2.50 for four to 16-year-olds, with threes and under free. Entry for wheelchair users is £1. TAKE A TOUR
Help solve the mystery of some strange goings-on in Margate.
Expect riddles to solve, codes to break and unusual people to meet on a hunt that will take you into every corner of the Theatre Royal Margate. The journey of discovery around the historic and impressive building will be held at intervals on Bank Holiday Monday from 1pm to 4pm.
Lasting an hour, they aim to fascinate and keep you guessing.

Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre’s annual garden event bursts into life on Bank Holiday Monday. Running until Sunday, May 7, it fills up the mall with ideas for your garden, products for your patio and family barbecues, plants and garden furniture. MEET MYTHICAL CREATURES
Celebrate May Day in historic surroundings with tradition at every corner. Hever Castle and Gardens’ May Day Festival runs from Saturday, April 29, to Bank Holiday Monday with a host of customs and activities.
Join the Lord and Lady of the May on the castle forecourt and see the crowning of the May Queen, when you can join in the age-old custom of dancing around the Maypole, with 16th century music. Visitors can also meet the mythical Jack-in-the-Green and follow the Green Man from folklore in a May Day procession through the gardens as he wakes up the plants for summer with magical May bells. GET CRAFTY
Browse handmade homeware, jewellery and toiletries as well as clothing and furniture at the Weald of Kent Handmade Fair.
The fair – formerly the Weald of Kent Craft and Design Show – will have home and garden pieces made by craftsmen and women, beauty products and leather goods from Saturday, April 29 to Bank Holiday Monday. There will also be family friendly outdoor activities including terrier racing and stone carving, rural craft demonstrations and live music throughout the day, each day at Penshurst Place. DOWN ON THE FARM
Morris dancing and Maypole dancing comes to Kent Life Heritage Farm Park, including a parade and crowning of the May Queen and her Princesses and for the first time the crowning of a May King and Prince.
Home cakes and mouth-watering food will be served in Dotty’s tea room and, in the gift shop, you can pick up some traditional Kent Life produce while visitors can meet the animals in the farm yard, including spring arrivals from lambs to piglets.
