Kent scenes and actors are among the BAFTA award nominations set to be announced this weekend.

The 2021 British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards ceremony will be broadcast live on the BBC tonight and tomorrow, with nominees joining virtually.

Though no Kent actors or directors are in the running for awards this year, the county's creative talent is still playing a starring role.

Ashford-born actor Mark Rylance, who last won a supporting actor BAFTA in 2016 for his role in Bridge of Spies alongside Tom Hanks, may not be in the running for an award himself, but his latest film, The Trial of the Chicago 7 features.

The legal drama set in 1968, which has also picked up numerous Oscar nominations, is up for Best Film, and original screenplay for Aaron Sorkin.

The Ashford-born actor plays the lawyer who defended the Chicago 7, William Kunstler.

Kate Winslet's latest movie, Ammonite, has a nomination for costume design for Michael O'Connor.

The film, directed by Francis Lee, stars Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet, set in 1840s England and telling the story of acclaimed but overlooked fossil hunter Mary Anning includes scenes filmed in the county.

County Lines, which has a best supporting actress nomination for Ashley Madekwe, included scenes based on work director Henry Blake did with victims in the county.

The film follows Tyler, a 14-year-old boy who is groomed and recruited into a gang and used to sell illegal drugs across the home counties.

Blake held sessions in Ashford and Canterbury in 2019 as a learning tool for his film.
