A stunning new light show themed around medieval England is set to illuminate one of the county’s landmarks.

Kent visitors can be among the first to see the colourful new display as it makes its debut at Rochester Cathedral this autumn, incorporating images from the British Library, Anglo-Saxon artefacts and manuscripts from the Middle Ages.

The show comes from Luxmuralis, an artistic collaboration that creates immersive audio-visual experiences which are often displayed on the walls of the country’s historic buildings.

Scriptorium: The Illuminated Histories will be the fourth time that the company has projected its striking artwork onto the cathedral, with previous shows being themed around space, science and the earth.

The new projections will see pages from religious texts and medieval scriptures come to life, from Anglo-Saxon motifs such as dragons and knights to mythical beasts and literary figures.

The display also features imagery taken from the collections at Rochester Cathedral.

The artwork, which includes work from renowned sculptor Peter Walker, will be fused with a captivating soundscape created by composer David Harper.

Almost the entire cathedral will be dripping with colourful illuminations, from the 12th century nave to the intricate architecture around the interior of the cathedral.

The new show is suitable for all ages and will premiere at the cathedral, set just off of the high street and opposite Rochester Castle, on Tuesday, October 1. You can book tickets here.

Entry slots begin at 6.40pm. Adult tickets start from £8.50 and increase to £10 at peak times.

The projections will be on display until Saturday, October 5.
