Are Inbetweeners heading Down Under?
Published: 07:00, 08 May 2013
Anybody out there missing The Inbetweeners is in luck. It sounds like the four stars of the TV show/film have signed up for a sequel. While the last film saw them on a lads’ holiday to Greece, this second film will apparently be set around a backpacking tour of Australia.
Cue lots of running away from snakes, screaming at spiders and losing drinking competitions to grubby blokes in outback pubs. And then being sick on the grubby bloke’s hot daughter.
The story originated in The Sun (which is not exactly a sure sign of accuracy), but the official Inbetweeners Facebook page responded with a comment that, while not corroborating, didn’t quite debunk the story either.
All in all, it sounds pretty hopeful that there will be a sequel. Unsurprising really, given the first film’s huge box-office results in the UK and the fact it was actually quite good, so didn’t ruin the characters forever.
Would you be interested in seeing a second Inbetweeners movie?
It’s been pushed back so many times, you’d be forgiven for forgetting about Ant Man.
The delays are kind of understandable, what with The Avengers and Iron Man and Thor and Captain America all being far more recognisable characters and making tons of cash.
However producer Kevin Feige says the film is still happening and is scheduled to arrive in 2015 but says the script needs more work.
Feige said: “Frankly, now we have to rewrite it to put it a little bit more into the Marvel cinematic universe because it was written before it existed.”
Considering how long the script has been kicking about, it makes sense that Marvel would want to give it an update, especially as Ant Man is the kind of C-list superhero who needs proper development. Pushing him onto screens before he’s ready will only leave us with another Fantastic Four and nobody wants that.
Another character who Marvel might finally do something with is Doctor Strange. Rumours have been circulating for years about how a movie is going to be announced any moment now, but Feige has made it clear that Strange is being worked on.
He said: “Doctor Strange is something that I talk about often and it’s sort of next up for us to dig into and explore.
“Our executive producer is working on the bones that would become Doctor Strange. Now that Iron Man 3 is finished, some of our ‘spare time’ is going to be devoted to trying to crack Strange.
“As we look past 2015, past Avengers 2 and Ant-Man, I think Doctor Strange should be one of the next movies in the years following that.”
One well-known name that won’t be getting any love anytime soon is Daredevil. Marvel has just regained the screen rights to Daredevil from 20th Century Fox, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the blind hero is going to get another screen outing.
Feige said: “Whenever a character comes back to us, it’s usually because the other studios don’t want to make the movies anymore – and that usually means the previous movies may not have been particularly well received. They all have potential, but we’re not going to say, ‘We got it back – make it!’”
A couple of weeks ago I wrote that Tom Hiddleston was the front-runner to replace Brandon Lee in The Crow remake.
Turns out that was nonsense as – after years and years of development hell – director F. Javier Gutierrez has at long last officially signed up an actor to play anti-hero Eric Draven.
And that actor is.... Luke Evans.
You know, Luke Evans! He’s that Welsh actor from Clash of the Titans and The Three Musketeers and he’s going to be in the next two Hobbit films and is playing the baddie in Fast & Furious 6.
So, someone who is clearly on the up-and-up, and by the time The Crow hits cinemas, the world will be far more familiar with him.
I’m just glad that there’s someone definitely in place and production can finally begin. Now the fear about the film totally sucking can begin in earnest.
