Families will head to Maidstone tonight armed with picnics and blankets for the annual Proms in the Park.

Dozens of people are expected to fill Millennium River Park, off James Whatman Way, for a free concert by the Kent Orchestra, led by John Perkins.

They will be accompanied by the Maidstone Singers, under Jeffrey Vaughan Martin.

People are welcome from 4pm. The show will start at 7.30pm.

Hundreds attended last year's Proms in the Park.

The evening will finish with fireworks display at 10pm.
