A new music festival that is expected to bring a £700,000 boost to Maidstone will take place in Mote Park next summer.

Ramblin’ Man Fair, a two day event, will feature a variety of bands performing classic rock, progressive rock, country and blues.

It will take place on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26 and performers signed up so far include Gregg Allman, who is part of the band that created the Top Gear title song.

Cllr Malcolm Greer, a Conservative representative for the Boxley ward in Maidstone Borough Council has welcomed the idea.

The cabinet member for economic and commercial development, said: “We are delighted that organisers, The Rock Collective, have chosen Mote Park for the Ramblin’ Man Fair.

"It is expected to bring in at least £700,000 into Maidstone’s economy not including accommodation or travel - a fantastic boost for our town.

“The Rock Collective has a lot of experience in organising events of this size, and we will be working closely with them on issues such as traffic and noise management to minimise disruption for local residents and to make sure the event runs smoothly.

“The organisers will also be getting in touch with residents closest to Mote Park with more details nearer to the event.”

Other acts signed up include German rock band Scorpions, who have had three top 20 albums in the UK.

British band Jethro Tull, whose album Stand Up was number one in this country in 1969.

Other acts include Camel, Marillion, Pendragaon, Riverise, Messenger and The Pineapple Thief.

Organisers say gourmet food will be on offer and a beer festival will run in conjunction to the music.

Glamping packages will also be offered, as will hotel deals and off-site camping.

It will not be the first time the park has held such a large event. In September it hosted The Social, a day of dance music.

In 2008 it also hosted Radio 1's Big Weekend.

Gary Turner, from The Rock Collective, said: “We searched the country to find the venue for Ramblin’ Man Fair and as soon as we stepped into Mote Park we knew we had found our home.”

There will be a variety of accommodation options for all needs and budgets including Glamping at the Ranch Packages, Hotel Packages and Off-Site Camping Packages.

An initial batch of early bird General admission and VIP weekend and day tickets are now available from www.ticketmaster.co.uk.

An early bird day ticket is £55 plus a £5.50 booking fee.

An early bird weekend ticket is £99 plus a £9.99 booking fee.
