Acclaimed actor Ralph Fiennes will star in the latest production to be aired for free as part of the National Theatre Live programme during lockdown.

The Harry Potter and English Patient star will appear in Antony & Cleopatra for the latest screening of National Theatre At Home on Thursday, May 7.

He stars alongside Sophie Okonedo in the production which will screen on the National Theatre's YouTube channel at 7pm.

The theatre schedule has proved hugely popular since it was launched as theatres were forced to close, with theatre lovers tuning in in their millions to watch highly acclaimed shows, such as last week's Frankenstein, directed by Danny Boyle and starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller.

Caesar and his assassins are dead. General Mark Antony (Ralph Fiennes) now rules alongside his fellow defenders of Rome. But at the fringes of a war-torn empire the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra (Sophie Okonedo The Hollow Crown, Mrs Mandela) and Mark Antony have fallen fiercely in love.

In a tragic fight between devotion and duty, obsession becomes a catalyst for war. Politics and passion are violently intertwined in Shakespeare’s gripping tale of power.
