The Gruffalo's Child, Alexandra Palace Theatre

Tall Stories' show for children opens at the theatre on Saturday December 11 and runs until Sunday, January 3. Follow the Gruffalo’s Child on her adventurous mission in the adaptation of the much-loved picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, as the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warnings about the Big Bad Mouse and tiptoes out into the deep dark wood. Six the Musical, Lyric Theatre

The show featuring six sassy wives of Henry VIII taking to the mic opened last week after months of enforced closure. The intoxicating Tudor take-off by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss sees them tell their tales, remixing 500 years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power. Dick Whittington, National Theatre

In a rare move, the National Theatre is putting on panto this year, opening on Friday, December 11. The updated version of the Lyric Hammersmith’s 2018 spin on Dick Whittington by Jude Christian and Cariad Lloyd will be staged at the Olivier Theatre on the South Bank until Saturday, January 23, 2021. Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Apollo Theatre

Everybody is talking about the West End’s first major musical to reopen. With a hotly-anticipated new film adaptation due to be released in February 2021, the show has returned to the Shaftesbury Avenue theatre for its third birthday from Saturday, December 12. Pantoland, London Palladium

The Palladium's annual panto is back for Christmas, despite everything that theatreland has gone through this year, and opens on Saturday, December 12 for a run that is just three weeks long. It will star Julian Clary, who lives in Aldington in Kent, with Nigel Havers and Gary Wilmot among the star-studded cast. For tickets from £25 visit palladiumpantomime.com

A Christmas Carol at the Charles Dickens Museum

Scrooge, Tiny Tim, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come and a suspiciously large turkey - they'll all be captured in a special version of Dickens's festive tale being staged at his former family home, 48 Doughty Street in Bloomsbury, now the Charles Dickens Museum. Actor Dominic Gerrard will be accompanied by puppetry and Alexis Bennett on violin for the performances, to be aired on Thursday, December 17, Sunday, December 20 and Thursday, December 31, followed by a live Q&A on Zoom. A Christmas Carol, the Dominion Theatre

Brian Conley is starring as Scrooge in the star-studded musical show, which runs in the West End until Saturday, January 2. He will star alongside Bexley-based Jacqueline Jossa from EastEnders and last year's I'm a Celebrity Queen of the Jungle and Busted star Matt Willis. The festive fable has a Broadway score, and a 24 piece orchestra and is staged with the auditorium organised into socially distant households or bubbles 1m apart.
