In a change to the norm, it’s a weekend of live music gigs dominating at a theatre this weekend.

BBC Radio Two’s Musician of the Year 2012, singer Tim Edey, takes to the stage of Canterbury’s Gulbenkian Theatre on Friday, November 28.

A virtuoso on acoustic guitar and accordion, Tim is originally from Broadstairs and now lives in Faversham. He has toured the world and recorded with most of the major names in Celtic roots music including the Chieftains, Michael McGoldrick and Christy Moore.

Tim recently completed a tour of the US, supporting award-winning Cape Breton fiddler Natalie Macmaster at her own invitation.

The music starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £14.

Then on Saturday, November 29, operating well beyond the remit of alt-folk are Cocos Lovers. A distinctive musical force, the seven-piece band seamlessly channel influences from Africa and the US Deep South while remaining ever-faithful to their Kentish roots.

Formed in Deal in 2007, Cocos Lovers have long been making waves across the country. Recently though, they’ve escalated internationally, with gigs in Texas, Scandinavia and Ireland, as well as having supported stadium folk mega-band Mumford and Sons on tour.
