The county’s newest festival, the Tenterden festival, which runs through to Sunday, July 14, features a foodie treat this weekend.

The Spirit of Tenterden festival runs from Friday, July 5 through to Sunday, July 7.

The festivities are in place of Tentertainment after its collapse and will feature art, history, drama and photography - as well as food and other family fun this weekend. The first Spirit of Tenterden Festival will bring live music and beer to the recreation ground.

The idea of This Ancient Boro’ owners Ray Pratt and Sarah Cleaton, it will feature live music and an open mic session on the Sunday.

There will be a range of food stalls, selling everything from ice cream and burgers to Thai street food and Texan ribs.

There will also be a beer festival offering more than 40 real ales and ciders, which CAMRA members can get a discount; a gin bar with street piano available to play, as well as a lager bar, and craft stalls, topped off with a dog show on the Sunday.

Maurice Dalton, who is leading the project, and who is an author, who lives in Smallhythe, said: “Tenterden has over 70 clubs, societies and other interest groups ranging from art through craft, dance, heritage, music, photography, singing, to theatre – and many more. Their contribution to the life of the town goes largely unrecognised. The Tenterden Festival is our way of saying thank you to them all and to celebrate the riches that they bring to the community.”

Organisers hope this year’s will be the first of many. Events also planned for the summer celebration include an exhibition of photographs by Tenterden Camera Club and displays at Smallhythe Studio, featuring the work of the district’s artists and a special exhibition of ancient embroidery at Tenterden museum. Sunday’s dog show will run from 11am with judging from noon.
