The one thing that you can always bank on is wedding themes constantly shifting, whether it’s introducing advanced technology or even harking back to older or more conventional traditions.
Whether it’s the choice of venue or the most popular colour scheme, here are some useful trends that will give you plenty of food for thought.
Say yes to the dress
After many of years of larger than life, big embroidery dresses, it appears that simplicity may have made a big comeback.
The most simple of dresses are now looking the most modern and chic, thanks largely to Meghan Markle.
The flamboyant Duchess of Sussex has prompted other brides to seemingly followed suit, opting for something timeless and modern and wearing something totally forward-thinking,
“2019 and 2020 is for the bride that knows her own mind and takes care of herself,” said Lesley Handford of Yours Truly Bridal House.
“There’s the silhouette of column into fit and flare in the highest quality crepe fabric with the detailing of illusion lace drifting across the skin.
“This is the epitome of elegance with a touch of sexy romance.
“A timeless classic bride will never be lost - moving away from the complete lace gown into applied lace on the princess shape gown. It’s pure romance at its best!”
Life is sweet
A wedding is simply not a wedding with a cake.
Many couples continue to want an element of fun in their cakes and a wow factor that is non-traditional.
“When it comes to personalised wedding cakes, most couples want the same piece of the action - namely semi-naked and buttercream cakes with iced images”, said Karen Kerr of Iced Images Wedding Cakes.
“They are extremely popular this year.
“They include the couples’ stories being told through silhouettes on their cakes, including places they have travelled, where the proposal took place and funny anecdotes.”
Half and half reveal cakes are also a popular choice.
The reveal sides showcase things they love such as their hobbies, places they have been, books they have read and even festival themes and football teams. The latter is often a surprise for the groom.
Let your wedding day bloom
When it comes to flower arrangements, it’s all about foliage according to Emma Catt of Arrangements.
Different shades of green leaves are mixed with whites and ivory flowers as well as hints of metallic gold.
Hoops in all forms such as table centrepieces, hanging hoops and small hoops for bridesmaids to carry are very-much sought after.
“Woodland foliage is currently very popular”, added Becky Sutton of Your Beautiful Day.
“Centrepieces full of foliage and dotted with single statement blooms are the trend at the moment.
“Gone are the perfectly round rose balls and we are starting to see more trailing arrangements with wildness and natural shape.
She adds: “Many brides are opting for soft colour palettes this year with metallic highlights of gold or rose gold.
“Voile is the on-trend fabric, organza has taken a step back and soft-flowing Voile drapes are being used on chairs and tables.
“Backdrop and flower arches are also in demand. They are being used behind ceremony tables and top tables and then sometimes reused later in the evening as an area for guest to snap photos and selfies.”
There is never a shortage of quirky weddings in this day and age, with most couples seeking something different and memorable.
Such demands are never in short supply at Your Beautiful Day.
One example includes being tasked with providing a travel-themed wedding where the bride requested hot air balloons floating across the ceiling.
“She wanted each table to represent a different country”, added Becky.
“We dressed her marquee with white chair covers and blue hoods to create a blue feeling within the room.
“We filled the ceiling with blue pom poms so as to create a cloud-filled sky and used handmade hot air balloons filled with flowers to create the travel theme.”

Each table centrepiece incorporated a prop from a different country along with a laser-cut table name
Becky and her team also handmade a table plan on a vintage map and displayed this with a collection of old-fashioned travel props and a sign post.
“Everyone is invited to our fantastic show on Sunday, April 14 to meet these amazing wedding professionals and scores of suppliers,” said Tina Green who is Event Director of The Wedding Experience.
“They can provide you with endless inspiration to make your wedding day just as you want it to be.”
