Kent August bank holiday activities and things to do for all the family, 2018

SPLASHES OF SUMMER, ASHFORD

There's entertainment at the Park Mall Shopping Centre as part of LoveAshford.com throughout the summer, with special events long weekend. On Friday, August 24 there will be crazy gold and table tennis, plus outdoor theatre, while on Saturday, August 25there will also be a kids' music workshop STAMP! in the Lower High Street and live music. There's more table tennis and live music on the bandstand on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, with a table tennis tournament in Middle Row on the Sunday. BETTESHANGER COUNTRY PARK, DEAL

Be a devil and dare to try something different at the country park's Daredevil Weekend on Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26. Unleash your inner adrenaline junkie and challenge your friends and family to an action-packed, exhilarating day. Take a leap of faith on the freefall stunt jump, tackle the Ninja Assault Course and brave Spider Mountain. There's also a Lily Pad Run, zorbing and combat archery to try. Dare all day wristbands cost are £15 each in advance or £18 on the day. A wristband allows unlimited access to all activities. Tokens for individual activities can be bought on the day for £4. HEVER CASTLE

Journey through history at the castle and gardens from Saturday, August 24 to Bank Holiday Monday. There will be encampment with Vikings and the Normans going head to head, medieval life including crafts, archery and jousting, plus a procession, led by Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. GRAND MEDIEVAL JOUST, DOVER CASTLE

Experience the spectacle of speed & skill as four masterful knights, on their magnificent steeds, battle for victory on Saturday, August 25 to Bank Holiday Monday. Choose your champion in the colourful display. Making her debut will be English Heritage’s first female jester, Swiss acrobat Colette Orler - Pollie Glotti - will be making her debut. GROOMBRIDGE PLACE, TUNBRIDGE WELLS

Be transported to the land of Oz at the house this summer as the Wizard of Oz is staged through to Saturday, September 1. There will be shows, sing-a-longs and character meet and greets - you could even bump into the scarecrow, or get to talk to Dorothy about life in Kansas. Also between the main 45-minute performances you can catch the Wicked Witch of the West, performed twice a day by Acting Moon Events, plus there will be workshops for kids. DIGGERLAND, STROOD

There’s bucket loads of fun on offer at the Strood fun park this summer. There’s the Giant Dirt Digger, a monster JCB 3CX, and a race in the go-karts. Plus visitors can take a spin on the legendary Spindizzy, and for little ones, there’s the Little Tikes play area with new outdoor toys. More details at diggerland.com

THE HOP FARM FAMILY PARK, PADDOCK WOOD

There’s daily fun at the attraction new Paddock Wood until Sunday, September 2, with Hopper the Rabbit & co from 10am every day. KENT LIFE, MAIDSTONE

The farming attraction will stage its smmer Ice Cream Festival on Bank Holiday Monday when there will be more than 20 flavours to sample as well as chocolatiers to choose from and sweet stalls offering candy floss, popcorn and snow cones. Visitors can sit back and listen to live music on the Dairy Stage, get the kids’ faces painted and watch some traditional Punch and Judy.There’s also the usual rides and play areas. THE MILK HOUSE, SISSINGHURST

The Sissinghurst pub's four-day Milk Fest is back for the bank holiday for its fifth year. In honour of the landmark, there will be Best of British fun starting on Friday, August 24 with Pimm’s slushies and twilight tunes, and music and family-friendly entertainment through to Bank Holiday Monday. There will be halloumi burgers, face painting and bubble shows, plus bespoke Kentish bitter, crafted by the Old Dairy Brewery. Details at themilkhouse.co.uk

LULLINGSTONE CASTLE, EYNSFORD

The castle stages its popular annual Plant Hunters' Weekend over the bank holiday from Saturday, August 25 to Bank Holiday Monday. Celebrate the lives of some of Britain's most intrepid plant hunters with the castle's Tom Hart Dyke and friends in Victorian dress as they lead you on a guided tour of the World Garden at 1.30pm and 3.30pm. Experience an expedition camp, complete with roaring fire and plant presses. Also at the castle for the weekend will be the Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR). PENSHURST PLACE

Get back to nature and meet some animals at the historic house this bank holiday weekend with falconry, bushcraft, crafts and a pantomime on Sunday, August 26 and bushcraft and croquet on Bank Holiday Monday. MILITARY ODYSSEY, KENT SHOWGROUND

KIDS IN PYRAMIDS, TUNBRIDGE WELLS
