It can be hard to get back into a routine after the chaos of Christmas has died down and all you’re left with is an overflowing recycling bin and the Bounty bars at the bottom of the chocolate tin.
However, if you’re planning to start getting fit and hitting your 10,000 steps in January, we’ve got some stunning winter walks that will get you up off the sofa and feeling refreshed for the New Year.
BETHERSDEN, near Ashford
Beat those January blues with a delightful walk around the historic village of Bethersden. The area is renowned for its history in the Kentish wool trade and Bethersden marble, which was used to build many of the county’s churches and cathedrals. The walk will last for almost five hours, with a lunch break in the middle.

BOUGHTON UNDER BLEAN, near Faversham
There’s lots of charming countryside to explore between Faversham and Canterbury, starting with the quaint village of Boughton Under Blean. The walk will take you on a scenic route through the area, passing through Boughton Court, Selling and Hickmans Green with open fields, woodland and orchards.

IGHTHAM MOTE, Sevenoaks
See in the New Year with a walk around this magnificent medieval estate. The National Trust property will be open early for a light breakfast, which is included in the price of your walk, before you head out into the grounds to explore 14 acres of gardens, lakes, woodland and orchards.

MEDWAY TOWNS
Explore some of Medway’s most iconic landmarks with a stroll around the towns. Starting with Rochester, you can snap a photo in front of England’s second-oldest cathedral and admire the Norman castle before walking to Chatham’s artistic hub, Intra. Then you can take in views of Fort Amherst, Gillingham’s 18th century wartime fort.

MILTON CREEK COUNTRY PARK, Sittingbourne
If your New Year’s resolution is to exercise more, you can get a headstart with this walk. Kris Staples, the Milton Creek park ranger, will lead you around the country park for two hours, stopping at the most picturesque and fascinating points along the way. The 128-acre space includes play areas, meadows, lakes and streams that are home to many different animals.

SAMPHIRE HOE, Dover
This family walk is a great way to get the kids up off the sofa over the Christmas break. The walk focuses on the nature reserve’s wildlife, which includes birds, butterflies, dragonflies, sheep, cows and more than 200 types of plants. Children can take part in challenges and ask questions as they walk around the base of the White Cliffs.
