Puppetry, dancing, juggling and stilt walking will be some of the performances families can see at an arts festival this bank holiday weekend.

bOing! Family Arts Festival will see live shows spread out over the University of Kent's campus in Canterbury on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29, to allow for plenty of social distancing.

Highlights include Jasmin Vardimon Company’s ALICE (VR), which is a new Gulbenkian co-commission, that is a virtual reality experience based on the classic children's tale Alice In Wonderland.

other highlights include Gandini Juggling with their original contemporary performance Smashed2; Dulce Compania and their Rainbow Ballet featuring stilt walkers, rollerblades and colourful costumes, and Upswing with a playful and surprising performance Catch Me.

Graduates of the University of Kent, Half A String and Frozen Light, are returning to their old stomping ground with a new show told from the top of a van The Puppet Van: The Lost Colour while Frozen Light have created a sensory outdoor experience Night Out In Nature, designed for audiences with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

Music for Change and GTown Talents will be on the main outdoor music stage and there will be Kent Mini Sport Sessions and Cool Science, an interactive liquid nitrogen show.

For under fives the playground tent will have a mix of songs and rhymes.

Family films being screened in the cinema include Paw Patrol: The Movie, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Disney’s Cruella and Jungle Cruise.

Festival director, David Sefton, said: “I am very happy to say that Boing is back! As the new director of the festival and our venues I’m delighted that not only is this much-loved family event back in business, it’s also back with a stellar line-up of international artists, live music and cutting-edge technology. We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone back on the campus for the family highlight of the summer.”

bOing! is free to enter although indoor performances cost £6 for tickets.
