Albion House, Ramsgate

This clifftop hotel has one of the most enviable views of any on this list. This might not be one to cure the January blues as, unfortunately, this hotel closes from November to January. However, you can still give yourself a little winter pick-me-up now and book something for the spring, as Alkham Court is well worth a visit. The family run farmhouse offers an award-winning Kentish breakfast with views of the rolling Kent Downs, room extras such as flowers, robes and slippers, and a hot tub and sauna to give guests the ultimate relaxing getaway.

The Good Hotel Guide review isn’t available online for this hotel just yet, but it only takes one look at the charming location and cosy rooms to see why it made the list in the first place. This bed and breakfast hotel is close to the iconic White Cliffs of Dover and overlooked by the historic Dover Castle, with easy access to ferry services from the busy port if you’re planning on crossing the Channel. This gourmet gastropub just outside of Canterbury has been a favourite with locals for years. Owner Marc Brigden has created a cosy culinary destination, led by head chef Rob Mantegna, serving a high-end menu of modern British food, from wild mushroom wellington to bone marrow butter. The bar is stocked with locally brewed ales, more than 40 gins and English wine. The Pig at Bridge Place, Canterbury

The quirky accommodation at this former music venue, which has seen legends such as Led Zeppelin pass through its doors, mirrors the building’s artsy history. The rooms range from Extremely Small to Hop Pickers’ Huts and have held onto much of the building’s original charm, including its secret stairways and hidden nooks and crannies. The open-plan kitchen lets visitors watch the expert team of Pig chefs as they prepare their meal, and the kitchen garden houses the Potting Sheds where you can unwind with a soothing spa treatment.

The Mount Edgcumbe, Tunbridge Wells

It’s another review that the Good Hotel Guide is holding back for readers of the book only, but thankfully this boutique pub hotel speaks for itself. The Mount Edgumbe has six luxury bedrooms, all of which have their own individual design and are filled with unique items and antiques from all over the world. If it’s unseasonably warm when you visit you can spend some time in the beer garden, but it’s more likely you’ll be cosied up in the pub’s sandstone cave with a drink and food from the British-European gastropub menu.

The Queen's Inn, Cranbrook

With Egyptian cotton linen, luxury toiletries and complimentary tea, coffee and homemade brownies, this Cranbrook inn walks the line between high-end sophistication and a welcoming home-from-home. There are a number of individually styled rooms, as well as a charming bar with a log fire serving local beer, cider and ale. The chef uses produce from local businesses such as Wealden Smokery and Bodiam Ice Cream to create top quality dishes in the much-loved restaurant.

Read’s, Faversham

It makes sense that this elusive fine dining restaurant and manor hotel, which can be found tucked sneakily away behind the bustling A2 in Faversham, isn’t part of the Good Hotel Guide’s online reviews for all to see. You’ll need to get the book to see what the guide says, but you can get a pretty good idea of what to expect here from the four poster beds, spacious walk-in shower and views of the immaculate lawns and kitchen garden. The elegant Georgian restaurant is led by Michelin-starred chef David Pitchford and serves locally sourced dishes with an extensive wine list.

Sissinghurst Castle Farmhouse, Cranbrook

The National Trust have had a hand in restoring this Victorian farmhouse, which sits within the Sissinghurst Castle estate in the Weald of Kent. The nine-bedroom bed and breakfast has beautiful views across the world-famous estate and gardens, which are just a short walk from your room. The ancient woodland and Elizabethan Tower are worth exploring during your stay, but don’t forget to make time for breakfast and the afternoon tea and cake included with your stay.
