More on KentOnline
One of Britain’s best-known broadcasters is sharing stories from across the globe.
Famed foreign correspondent John Simpson has been at the forefront of international and political news for 55 years. Now, he is looking back on his remarkable catalogue of work with the Leaders and Lunatics tour.
The tour, which comes to Canterbury for one night only, will see the journalist describe first-hand meetings and personal encounters with global leaders.
During the two-hour talk, John will unpack how figures such as Vladimir Putin and Osama bin Laden rose to power and discuss worldwide issues including conflict, climate change and economies.
After landing a job with the BBC in 1970, the Emmy-winning reporter travelled to more than 100 countries to cover world affairs, politics and diplomatic news.
His work has seen him dodge bullets at the 1989 Beijing Tiananmen Square massacre, travel alongside rebels in the 2011 Libyan civil war, report from Belgrade during the 1999 Kosovo War and become injured in friendly fire during the 2003 Iraq war.
The 80-year-old has also racked up an impressive collection of interviewees. He has conducted interviews with huge names, including Margaret Thatcher, Nelson Mandela and Saddam Hussein.
During the event, fans can pose their questions to the world affairs editor and learn more about some of modern history’s most divisive political figures.
John Simpson will be at the Marlowe Theatre on Thursday, March 20. You can book tickets online here.
