A classic musical is bringing all the razzle-dazzle of Broadway to a Kent theatre as part of its nationwide tour.
The all-singing, all-dancing A Chorus Line is currently visiting theatres all over the country, including six nights in Canterbury.
The show is a peek behind the curtain at the dog-eat-dog world of the theatre and the highs and lows that come with being involved with showbiz.
A Chorus Line made its US debut in 1975 and received 12 Tony Award nominations, winning nine - including Best Musical and Best Original Score - and earned the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
One year after opening in America, the show set up shop in London’s West End and scored more accolades, including the first Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical of the Year.
Set in New York in the 1970s, the musical follows 17 ambitious young performers all hoping to make the cast of an upcoming Broadway production.
The group are put through their paces during the gruelling audition process, with each performer sharing why being on the stage is their dream. However, in the end, only eight will make the cut.
Michael Bennett, who directed the original production, used real-life testimonies and recordings from Broadway dancers to influence the story.
The musical features glitzy numbers such as One, I Hope I Get It and Nothing, as well as the ballad What I Did For Love, which has been covered by the likes of Aretha Franklin and Lea Michele.
The new tour stars Adam Cooper, who has choreographed Singin’ in the Rain and Carousel, and Carly Mercedes Dyer, known for appearing in the Drifters Girl and Dreamgirls.
A Chorus Line will be at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from Monday, September 2 to Saturday, September 7. Book tickets online here.
