Energetic knee-slides across the stage have meant the cast of The Buddy Holly Story have gone through more than 3,300 pairs of trousers during their 6,000 UK performances far.
The high-energy show has also used 211,709 plectrums and 217,740 batteries.
The enduring tale of Buddy Holly’s meteoric rise to fame and his final legendary performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, before his untimely death at just 22, has been seen by more than 22m people.
In 18 short months the Texas-born boy revolutionised the face of contemporary music influencing those who have come after, from the Beatles to Bruce Springsteen.
The production boasts a range of musicians who between them stage more than 20 of his greatest hits, including That’ll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Oh Boy and Rave On.
Buddy’s widow, Maria Elena Holly, said of the show: “When we opened the show we never imagined Buddy’s music and story would still be rocking stages and entertaining audiences around the world week-in week-out more than 25 years later.
