It’s going to be a party atmosphere in Ashford town centre as preparations get in full swing for the Carnival of the Baubles.
The carnival, which will take place on Saturday, December 14, will be the final spectacle of Ashford’s Illuminites - a series of creative events and spectacles taking place across the town this Christmas, organised with Love Ashford.
Last weekend, there were projections on buildings and tree sculptures lit up while this weekend’s Carnival of the Baubles is a procession of giant, illuminated baubles decorated by children from six local primary schools across Ashford, and is the first such event to ever take place in the town.
Members of the public will be able to join volunteers, schools and local businesses to help elevate this festive celebration that will get under way at Elwick Place and Ashford town centre from 5.30pm.
The procession will make its way up Bank Street to the Lower High Street, where it will end in a dazzling party.
And there will be a night market with hot food and drink.
This weekend is also a milestone for Elwick Place’s Picturehouse as it marks its first anniversary.
There’ll be a host of activities for the family, including face painting, as well as a reading by a local children’s author.
There’ll be a variety of screenings being shown, including the latest releases such as Frozen II and Knives Out, but tickets for all films on Saturday, December 14 will be just £5.
For Picturehouse members, on the day it costs £3 for tickets.
