Musical fans should head to the theatre in Dartford this week to watch an inspirational British production about love, friendship and women’s rights.
The show, Made in Dagenham, which is based on the 2010 film with the same name, was a thrill to watch with its wonderful singing cast, psychedelic colourful costumes and stunning set.
Members of the Dartford Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (DAODS) performed on stage which started with working mum Rita trying to get her fella out of bed and her children off to school so she can get to work at the Ford Dagenham Motors factory on time.
Set in Essex in 1968 the show certainly raised laughs from the moment Rita sets foot on stage as she sings the quirky adult language renditions of her life to the audience.
Life is just about to change for her and the other women who work in the stitching room at the car plant as they learn their pay grade is about to be dropped to unskilled.
Rita takes your through a heartfelt and sincere journey as she finds the strength to lead her workmates in a battle against the motoring giant and the untrustworthy union reps.
The factory floor is a mix of witty exchanges, meetings, music and more and that coupled with the domestic dramas and songs the show carries the audience on a journey of poignant and personal battles the female machinists have to endure as they embark on their quest for equal pay.
The show is terrific at presenting a portrait of the poignant and factual events during the 1968 strike and gave theatre goers a powerful story to enjoy, laugh and applaud.
The show is on at the Orchard Theatre until Saturday, April 29, for tickets to the show visit orchardtheatre.co.uk or call 01322 220000.
