Some heavyweights will be steaming in to Dartford this weekend.
The annual Dartford Steam Rally will take over Central Park on Saturday, May 6, with full size working steam traction engines, as well as their miniature counterparts built by local amateur engineering enthusiasts.
There will also be vintage buses and coaches, military vehicles and, in the farming section, tractors, heavy horses and a display on Kent’s rural heritage.
Running from 10am to 5pm, the day is a celebration of the town’s industrial and social heritage and commemorates the life and work of Richard Trevithick, steam pioneer, inventor, engineer and one time resident of Dartford.
The free event also features a funfair, a fair organ and food stalls. The following day, on Sunday, May 7, full size engines and historic vehicles will gather in Overy Street, Dartford, at noon for a road run around the town in memory of Richard Trevithick.
