Elton John has announced that Welsh electro pop act Bright Light Bright Light will provide the support at his Kent concert next month.
Bright Light Bright Light is the moniker of Welsh-born, New York and London residing electronic pop artist Rod Thomas. Referred to as "completely irresistible" by the Guardian and "a songwriter of extraordinary dexterity" by the Sunday Times, he is known for a dream-like and club-friendly blend of music.
Elton, undoubtedly one of the top-selling solo artists of all time, plays the Kent Showground at Detling, near Maidstone, on Sunday, May 31.
The date is part of Elton's European tour, and will feature iconic hits and classic album tracks from his five-decade career.
Rod has said of Elton, whom he will also support at concerts in Wales, Gloucester and Scotland: "Nobody else goes out of their way like he does to help new musicians. So many people owe their kickstart, or at the very least a lot of their optimism, to his tireless love of music. And getting to watch his set every night after I play is the best reward in the world!”
The May concert will be the first time Elton has appeared in the county since a sell-out show at the St Lawrence cricket ground in Canterbury in June 2006.
The venue's event manager, Alison Wallington, has said: "We are delighted that Elton John has chosen to bring one of his shows to the Kent Showground.
"The Kent Event Centre is home to many public events each year, from garden shows through to Christmas parties, but I know that the addition of the Elton John show will prove to be a firm favourite with all our customers and the community of Kent."
Elton is one of the top-selling solo artists of all time, with 37 gold and 27 multi-platinum albums as well as 58 Billboard Top 40 singles, and he has sold more than 250 million records worldwide. He holds the record for the biggest-selling single of all time, Candle in the Wind 1997, which sold 33 million copies.
