Canterbury's Marlowe Studio is dedicated to presenting cutting-edge theatre, comedy and gigs, and this season's newly announced line-up offers just that.
Highlights include moving puppet show Translunar Paradise; an adaptation of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest; Stella – a story of two women trying to find their place in the world; Birdy – a fizzing comedy fairytale; acclaimed Shakespeare company Propeller’s Pocket Merchant; and Fagin’s Last Hour– a one-man show and powerful re-imagining of Oliver Twist.
For children and families, there’s Dotty The Dragon and Unmythable, and this season sees includes the first musical at the Marlowe Studio, When Midnight Strikes, set around one tense New Year’s Eve party.
The Studio also boasts top names in comedy including Alex Horne, Carl Donnelly, Simon Munnery and Roisin Conarty, plus monthly sell-out show The Marlowe Comedy Cabaret.
Live music fans will enjoy a performance by acclaimed acoustic quartet Gypsy Fire.
And best of all, tickets for the shows are markedly less pricey than those for the main Marlowe Theatre.
Head of creative projects Danny Lipman said: “People may see theatre as an expensive night out, but it needn’t be. The Marlowe Studio provides quality theatre with prices sitting around £12. I think this also allows you to take a risk – trying things you might not otherwise see.”
He added: "It really is our best line up yet. As the reputation of the Marlowe Studio grows, so does the variety and quality of our programming – as we receive the best small-scale touring companies around.”
