Jazz leader Steve Waterman is bringing an all-star group of musicians to Faversham to kick off a new series of jazz nights.
Celebrating the music of American jazz icon Gerry Mulligan, widely considered the architect of “cool jazz” in the 1950s, the Steve Waterman Quintet play the Alexander Centre in Preston Street on Friday, February 10.
As a baritone player, Gerry Mulligan was known for his light and nimble improvising and went on to record with many jazz greats including Stan Getz, Johnny Hodges and Ben Webster.
A renowned British trumpet player, Steve has played and recorded with the likes of Alan Barnes, Colin Towns, Jeff Hooper and American arranger Vince Mendoza. The quintet will feature Karen Sharp on baritone saxophone. A winner of the tenor saxophone category of the British Jazz Awards, she will join Steve on trumpet and flugelhorn along with Clark Tracey on drums.
John Horler on piano and Alec Dankworth on double bass complete the line-up.
