The sights, sounds and even smells of wartime are coming to Hever Castle this weekend for the annual Home Front event.
Re-enactors will become Home Guard soldiers, Royal Air Force pilots and crew, Auxiliary Fire Service personnel and Royal Navy Beach head commandos through the weekend of Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23.
Hever’s Home Front gives visitors the chance to learn about the role of the Air Raid Wardens and Women’s Voluntary Service. There will be authentic cooking on rations, classic cars and vintage prams. Take part in a dance class in the tea tent, or tap your toes to singer Miss Annie, and browse stalls selling vintage wares and refreshments.
There will also be displays of period model boats on the moat and a grounded life-size Spitfire. On the Saturday there will be the chance to hear first-hand accounts from veteran soldiers, pilots and sailors who served during and after the Second World War.
The Allies will also be represented, with US Airborne re-enactors, Airborne Resistance, the US Navy Shore Patrol and the US Coastguard.
Arrive in period dress for a chance to win a prize for visitors, hosted by Viv the Spiv, and if you need help to finish your look, head to the Pretty Me Vintage hair salon.
