Lovers of top-notch British rock and R&B should head to the coast this Saturday.
The one-day Margate Rock & Blues Festival on May 13, now in its third year, will be headlined by Dr Feelgood, whose hits include Roxette and Milk and Alcohol.
After numerous changes in personnel over the years, the current line-up is led by drummer Kevin Morris, and features Steve Walwyn on lead guitar, Phil Mitchell on bass, and vocalist, Robert Kane.
Joining Dr Feelgood as headliners are Eddie and the Hot Rods. The pub rockers from Essex led by original singer Barrie Masters, will be bringing a high-energy mix of classic and new songs including Teenage Depression and Life On The Line, plus their biggest hit, Do Anything You Wanna Do.
Special guest John Otway first achieved notoriety with his eye-watering performance on Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 and his subsequent hit Really Free, but had to wait 25 years for his next hit, Bunsen Burner.
Earlier this year, he announced he was planning to record a new album on the Caribbean island of Montserrat, making him the first international artist to record there since the Rolling Stones in 1989. Closing the festival will be the Members, whose first single, Solitary Confinement, was released way back in 1976.
Former Capital Radio DJ and presenter on Channel 4 TV’s The Tube, Wendy May, returns with her Locomotion DJ set, while DeeJay Wheelie-Bag is in the Seaside Bar with his unique mix of music and cabaret, with quizzes and role-play games.
The festival runs from 4.30pm to 11pm. Entry is £25.50.
