More on KentOnline
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the Canterbury Festival, you name it, it’s there, from comedy to drama, music to art and performance to walks. There's even a tribute to Sound of Music star Julie Andrews.
Packed with more than 200 free and ticketed events, Kent’s international arts festival enters its second week this weekend.
We’ve picked a tiny selection of events through the week two, which showcase what’s on offer.

Another milestone is being celebrated. For many people it will be staggering to think that Georgie Fame was at No.1 50 years ago with his biggest hit Yeh Yeh. MONDAY, OCTOBER 26
After his much younger girlfriend leaves him for a better looking, richer, more successful man, Peter Searles dissolves into a gibbering, chain-smoking insomniac before going on a voyage of self-discovery, digging up memories of relationships and a confused childhood. Comedy Sex Lies and a DVD will be at the Spiegeltent at 7pm. Tickets £12.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27
Cute, sassy and sexy, retro girl band Tootsie Rollers will be raising eyebrows at the Spiegeltent at 9.30pm. The group fuse old-school classics with contemporary hits accompanied by a live three-piece band. Tickets £15.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28
Cheeky yet charming cabaret show Julie Madly Deeply takes a look at the life and songs of showbiz legend Julie Andrews. Her songs from Mary Poppins, the Sound of Music and My Fair Lady are mixed with the story of Julie’s life and beginnings as a child star, right through to her recent challenges of losing her famous voice. The candid comedy is performed by Fascinating Aida star and West End actress Sarah-Louise Young. It is at the Spiegeltent at 7pm. Tickets £12.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29
Confirming that any genre of music can be given a new perspective, musical show the Wolves of St Elvis play Shakespeare will bring a variety of plucked instruments to the festival. It’s being performed by Lutes and Ukes. The band was founded by members of the legendary Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain and Theatre of the Ayre. They promise a Halloween twist on their diverse repertoire. Tickets £15, in Augustine Hall at 7.30pm.
