Tickets are on now on sale for the two-week Canterbury Festival which will feature a Mobo award winner and renowned performers from the world of music, comedy, literature and even circus.
The annual event - Kent’s International Arts Festival - runs from Saturday, October 19 until Saturday, November 2, will be held in and around Canterbury with venues including Canterbury Cathedral, the Marlowe Theatre and the Spiegeltent, a travelling 1920s dance hall coming to the city centre.
Singer Jack Savoretti will kick off his autumn tour at the Marlowe Theatre, celebrating his No.1 album, Singing to Strangers, while two-time Mobo award-winner Laura Mvula will perform a one-off show on Wednesday, October 23.
No. 1 selling country duo Ward Thomas play on Friday, October 25, while architect of the Buena Vista Social Club, Juan de Marcos brings the sound of Havana to East Kent with the Afro-Cuban All Stars on Thursday, October 24.
There will be some big classical events staged in the cathedral including The Sixteen Choir and Orchestra performing Monteverdi’s Vespers; rising classical star and saxophonist Jess Gillam follows up last year’s performances at The Proms with the world premiere of a new work by John Harle, along with the Frisian Symphonic Wind Orchestra for The Keys of Canterbury.
The Salon Perdu Spiegeltent will host comedian Javier Jarquin - aka Card Ninja; Australia’s award-winning circus company Casus with Knee Deep and Le Gateau Chocolat and Jonny Woo.
There will also be a programme of talks covering everything from history and crime, to the clergy and Rupert Bear. Criminal barrister William Clegg will give a revealing account of life under the wig, while ethnobotanist James Wong will share some secrets to improving your diet.
