Gentlemen of Few, from the Deal and Dover area, are made up of teenage musicians Jarrod Piner (pianist, accordionist and backing vocalist), Elliott Norris (guitar and banjo), Reece Forward (lead vocals and bass) and Luke ‘Kit’ Evans (drums and banjo).
They have been shortlisted for this year’s BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award and will be going up against three other bands at the ceremony in February.
If they are successful, prizes include the opportunity to perform live in session for Radio 2’s Folk Show and to perform at top UK festivals in 2014, including the prestigious Cambridge Folk Festival.
Jarrod said: “It’s just great that more people will get to hear our music. It’s the only thing that we are really passionate about and we’ve given lots of commitment to. It’s such a big part of our lives now.”
They will be performing their new single, Room to Grow Without the Damage of Time, at the Astor Theatre, Deal on Saturday, December 7.
Support will be provided by Canterbury band Coco and the Butterfields. The five-piece group describes its fusion of folk, pop and hip hop as fip fok.
Doors open at 7pm for an 8pm start, with tickets priced £6. Call 01304 370220.
