Christmas is slowly creeping up on us, and where better to find a unique gift for someone special than at a bustling antiques fair?

Kent has some fantastic vintage fairs popping up in November, so get your Bargain Hunt brain switched on and head out to find some brilliant retro gems and second-hand treasures…

APPLEDORE: If you’re looking to accessorise your wardrobe or find a special piece of jewellery to give to someone on Christmas Day, this is the market for you. The Appledore Antique Jewellery, Gold and Silver Fair has more than 15 stalls selling all kinds of vintage and retro trinkets, from expensive necklaces to quirky earrings. There’s also a shop selling locally-sourced and homemade produce, a cafe with hot food and drink and toilets onsite. The fair is free to enter, with free parking too, and dogs are welcome.

CHATHAM: Keen historians with an interest in wartime Britain will want to head to the next Militaria Fair in Chatham. These regular fairs bring together buyers and sellers from all over the UK who specialise in military artefacts, including medals, uniforms, deactivated weapons, machinery and documents. It’s a great place for collectors to find authentic pieces of history from the First and Second World Wars, as well as other battles, and speak to the experts who can tell you all about these rare items.

Details: Sunday, November 10 at Slipway 5 at the Historic Dockyard Chatham from 7am. Entry costs £4 and can be paid on the door.

DETLING: Whether you are looking for jewellery, furniture, clothing, memorabilia, toys, kitchenware, gold, silver, ceramics or artwork, you can find it all at Kent’s biggest antiques fair. The Detling Antiques and Vintage Fair boasts more than 400 indoor and outdoor stalls with expert antiques dealers and local sellers who are happy to chat about their collections. There are some great bargains, second-hand treasures and unique gifts to be found, as well as food trucks waiting to fuel your shopping trip. Remember to bring cash, as not all dealers take card, but it’s free parking and under 16s can enter for free too.

HAMSTREET: Enjoy a day out at a vintage village market and pick up a retro gem or two. The Hamstreet Antiques Fair is a small but friendly fair that has several stalls selling timeless items from decades past. There’s also a handful of sellers with small furniture if you’re looking to add a new statement piece to your home. When you’ve finished shopping, you can take a walk through the ancient woodlands at Ham Street Woods and Orlestone Forest or stroll along the banks of the Royal Military Canal.

KESTON: Browse items from around 30 antiques dealers and see what bargains you can find at the Keston Antiques, Vintage and Collectables Fair. There’s a great range of interesting items on offer, from delicate porcelain and sparkling crystal to intricate pottery and stunning artwork. There will also be refreshments for sale, and there’s parking onsite as well as the nearby residential roads.

TENTERDEN: The cafe at this vintage fair opens early, so there’s time to grab a morning coffee and bacon bap before the gates open. When you’ve finished breakfast, you can take a wander around more than 20 tables chock-full of retro finds at the Tenterden Antiques Fair. The fair is fully booked, so you know you’ll never be short of things to see – or buy. It’s a dog-friendly event, with free parking and toilets onsite.

WHITSTABLE: Antique hunters living on the Kent coast are in luck because there’s not one, but two, fairs happening in Whitstable this month. This first is at the Umbrella Centre, a charity and community hub supporting those with mental health issues, where there will be a handful of indoor stalls selling a range of fascinating artefacts. The second is held at the historic Whitstable Castle, where stalls will take over the ground floor, first floor and studio room.
