Kent ‘50s Festival returns to Sandwich with live music and vintage displays

A retro festival is taking visitors back in time to the days of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and the post-war baby boom.

The Kent ‘50s Festival is a rock ‘n’ roll-themed event that will return to Sandwich for its third summer thanks to the huge success of the past two years.

The organisers at Killertone Records will be putting on free live entertainment in Guildhall Square throughout the day from The Obscuritones, The Jive Guys and more.

Visitors can also browse a vintage market full of clothes, accessories and vinyl records from the era, admire classic cars on display and cheer on the movers and shakers taking part in the dance competition.

The Eddie Cochran Lost Locker Exhibition will also return to the festival this year.

The photography exhibition is dedicated to the American musician and includes unseen pictures from the teen heartthrob’s personal collection.

The ticketed concerts will take place inside the Guildhall. You can book tickets here.

There will be music from The Jets, a British rockabilly band who climbed up the charts with hits like Yes Tonight Josephine and Love Makes the World Go Round.

Also appearing on the main stage are blues duo the Voodoo Vendors, vintage band Miss Holiday and the Swingtones, and DJs Andy Roadoiler and Scott Mantle.

Sonny West from Killertone Records said: “I am delighted that Kent ‘50s Festival will return for its third event in 2024. This is a fantastically nostalgic festival, packed with top-class entertainers that really bring the town to life!

We are honoured to have The Jets headlining this event, performing a brilliant rockabilly set. And I’m excited to be returning to The Guildhall stage with my blues duo Voodoo Venders, performing alongside handpicked acts that will absolutely get you jiving and rocking the night away!”

The Kent ‘50s Festival takes place on Saturday, August 3 at Guildhall Square in Sandwich.
