With a name like Sunny Sands, could there be a better venue than Folkestone’s sandy beach for an epic sandcastle contest?
The annual event celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, with hundreds expected to take part, armed with buckets and bursting imaginations.
The sandcastle competition on Sunday, July 16, runs from 10am and will sees creations from crustations to mermaids and cars to sea creatures all emerging out of the sand, with only the help of buckets, spades and hands.
Anyone can take part, raising funds for the Church Street Project in Shepway, which provides creative therapy and counselling to children in the area.

Ramsgate Festival, alongside Ramsgate Week which runs from Saturday, July 22, to Sunday, July 30, starts with opera on the beach.
The Garsington Opera for All will perform Handel’s masterpiece Semele on Ramsgate beach on Saturday, July 22.

You could feel like you’ve stepped on to a Californian beach if you head to Joss Bay in Broadstairs during the Wheels & Fins festival.
The sports and music festival is three all-action days with events including the UK BMX Flatland Champs, Surf & Sup events and soapbox racing, plus live music on a main outdoor stage, DJs, stalls and craft beer and cider.

Now known as BayFest, the Herne Bay Festival will bring parades, a breathtaking airshow, fireworks – and a sandcastle competition to the seaside.Running from Saturday, August 5, to Bank Holiday Monday, August 28, organisers including Bay Promo Team and Herne Bay Town Partners have come together for the festival.
On Tuesday, August 15, Herne Bay beach will be the venue for BayFest’s sandcastle competition.
