Adult-only Halloween events taking place across Kent in 2022

If you want a real scare this spooky season, we’ve got you covered with the best adult-only Halloween events taking place across Kent.

From ghoulish ghost hunting to hair-raising parties, there’s lots of fun for grown ups over the weekend. However, if you have young children who also want to join in this month, make sure you read our guide to family activities this Halloween.

Fright Night, Canterbury

This fearsome adult-only Fright Night at Marleybrook House will see the elegant Canterbury venue filled with scare mazes, featuring spooky surprises and live actors who will do whatever it takes to make you jump out of your skin. The barn will have a huge outdoor screen showing the best Halloween movies of all time, and there will also be thrilling rides, food stalls, three bars, a sweet stall and live music from Kent-based band GrooveZoo.

Halloween Horrors, Chatham

One of the UK’s oldest scare nights is returning for its 39th year, and it certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. Halloween Horrors, inside Chatham’s 300 year old Fort Amherst, is a truly terrifying attraction, recommended for older teens and adults, which includes horror scenes, special effects, live actors, scare mazes, intense escape rooms, thrilling rides and haunted houses. The three Halloween experiences this year will see visitors venture into the Gates of Hell maze, run away with the circus in Circo Mortis and struggle to escape from the Dead End - if you dare to enter.

Medway Queen, Gillingham

Are you brave enough to hunt for ghosts this Halloween? Step aboard the Medway Queen, moored in Gillingham, and learn about its history, dating back to the early 1900s. The ship was returned to the River Medway after suffering hull damage in 1984 and has been in the care of the Medway Queen Preservation Society since 1985. This special evening, led by a team of experienced investigators, will include séances, vigils and ouija boards, as well as use of their ghost hunting equipment. Nightmare on Cave Street, near Faversham

If you want to enjoy a spooky yet sophisticated soiree this Halloween, you can dress up to the nines and head down the Cave Hotel. This luxury destination, between Faversham and Canterbury, is encouraging naughty (or nice, if you prefer) costumes and your choice of poison on arrival. The drinks will be flowing and there will be petrifying performances from acrobatics and contortionists, before the resident DJ takes over with the best party anthems. There will also be food, included in your ticket, from the Korean Cowgirl food truck.

The Psychology of Serial Killers, Chatham

Come face-to-face with some of the grisliest crimes in history in this freakishly fascinating talk. Expert forensics lecturer Jennifer Rees will take the audience through how serial killers are classified, debunk common myths about those who commit unthinkable crimes and examine case studies of notorious killers including Fred and Rose West, David Berkowitz and Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. Spend Halloween night learning about real-life horrors - if you’ve got the stomach for it.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Sheerness

It’s the perfect time of year to dust off this cult classic. Richard O’Brien’s risque musical is bursting with B-movie tropes, comical horror characters, rock ‘n’ roll music and fishnet tights. Dress up in your best Frank-N-Furter costume, bring your favourite props and get ready to Time Warp the night away at this special screening at The Criterion in Sheerness.

This isn’t the only place you can catch the Rocky Horror Picture Show this Halloween. It’s also showing on an outdoor screen at the Kent and East Sussex Railway in Tenterden on the same night.

Totally Wired, Margate

Halloween is a great excuse to throw a party, but why bother hosting one yourself when Dreamland will do all the hard work for you? The vintage fairground in Margate is throwing a monster bash at its indoor venue, The Ballroom, for the 16th year. Totally Wired, known for their alternative parties full of the biggest rock, punk, indie, metal and emo hits, will be taking over the seaside town with their terrifying tunes. Join resident DJs Fragile and Orlandimus, along with guest DJs and dancers, in your best zombie fancy dress for an unforgettable night.
