One of the world’s best-loved musicals, Grease, is hitting Thunder Road and coming to theatres across the country, including three venues in Kent.
The production, which is adapted from the West End show, will kick off its tour at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley for nine nights this April.
The show will then return to the county in the autumn with dates at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury and the Orchard Theatre in Dartford.
The latest production features choreography by former Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips and stars Marley Fenton, who has recently appeared in the nationwide tour of the Wizard of Oz as the Tin Man, as Danny Zuko and Hope Dawe, known for roles in Mean Girls and 9 to 5, as Sandy Olsson.
The musical was written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey and made its live debut in 1971 before achieving worldwide recognition thanks to the 1978 film.
The Paramount Pictures blockbuster became the highest-grossing musical film at the time and was nominated for an Academy Award and five Golden Globe Awards.
The film starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John as Danny and Sandy, two teenagers who meet on summer vacation and strike up a romantic connection.
When squeaky-clean Sandy transfers to Rydell High, she is reunited with a leather-clad Danny but the pair realise that rekindling their romance amid high school cliques might not be as easy as they had hoped.
The show is set in the 1950s and features hits such as You’re the One That I Want, Hopelessly Devoted to You, Summer Nights and Greased Lightnin’.
Grease will be at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley from Friday, April 12 to Saturday, April 20.
It will then visit the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury from Monday, September 9 to Saturday, September 14 and the Orchard Theatre in Dartford from Monday, September 30 to Saturday, October 5.
